Himalayan Blue Poppy
For about 2 weeks in March each year the blue poppies bloom at Longwood Gardens. They are one of the truly blue flowers that occur in nature. As you tell by the next image they are a poplar photographic subject. I thought perhaps I might miss the crush by visiting on a Monday morning...but, no. Fortunately, everyone was accommodating since we all realize that the opportunity to photograph these beauties is fleeting.
BTW check out the lady with the blue hair! The "Piece de Resistance"
At the very end of the day, as I was getting ready to leave the conservatory at Longwood, I notice these lilies. What first grabbed my attention were "lines" in the petals, and the "lines" of the stamens and the gorgeous light on the flower. I sat on the wall and began to take picture after picture. It wasn't until I got home and loaded the images onto my computer that I realized there was a big bud shoving its way in from the left. There is a bit of editing to eliminate unwanted petals and stems, but this image is definitely headed for an upcoming "Botanical" call for art!
